When Tap Captions fits
You want the footage to remain the focus and need words that help explain it. Use a local clip, add a voiceover if it needs one, and check the captions at the size your audience will watch.
The caption style guide starts with readability, placement and useful emphasis. The workflow runs on an iPhone with iOS 27 and is available through TestFlight.
When Submagic fits
Consider Submagic if your usual edit depends on automated additions such as B-roll or a particular animated caption treatment. Check the tools included in the plan you are considering and try them on representative footage.
Tap Captions does not promise automated B-roll generation or a replacement for a full editing suite. Its focus is a local caption and narration pass.
Compare the result on a phone
Watch the same clip in both workflows. Check the text, pronunciation and whether any added motion makes the explanation harder to follow. The best style for a lively social clip may be different from the one for a tutorial.
