Local video processing is the starting point for Tap Captions. The app lets you caption and narrate your footage on your device, without sending it to a cloud rendering service.

What stays local

The workflow covers opening a downloaded video, processing its speech, preparing narration and saving the finished video on the iPhone. Your footage does not need to be uploaded to our servers to complete that work.

Tap Captions is in TestFlight testing. Try the workflow with a copy of your footage and tell us how it works for your projects.

What can still need a connection

• Downloading a source video whose original is in iCloud Photos.
• Downloading a file from a cloud provider in Files.
• Preparing any speech or voice assets required by the system.
• Installing the app or an update.
• Publishing a finished video to a social platform.

Your sharing and backup settings still apply

Saving a video to Photos can make it eligible for iCloud Photos sync if you have that enabled. A file saved to iCloud Drive can sync too. Sending the result to another person or service moves it outside the local editing workflow.

On-device processing does not change those settings or prevent you from sharing your own work. Choose the save destination and sharing method that fit the video.
