Tap Captions adds captions and voiceover to your local videos, with processing on your iPhone. The app is in TestFlight testing for iOS 27.

How do I try Tap Captions?

Request a TestFlight invitation. You need an iPhone with iOS 27 and Apple's TestFlight app. The beta page explains how to get started and where to send feedback.

Do my videos need to be uploaded?

Tap Captions processes the edit on your device. You do not upload the video to a cloud rendering service. An original stored in iCloud or another Files provider may need to be downloaded before you can work on it.

Can I work offline?

Prepare the full source video and any required speech assets while connected. Then test the import, caption or voiceover step and export with the connection off. See the offline guide. Posting to a social network still needs a connection.

Does speech synthesis create captions?

Speech synthesis turns a written script into spoken audio. Speech recognition turns recorded words into text. Tap Captions uses these for different parts of the workflow, voiceover and automatic captions.

Can I use a video from Files?

Yes. Choose a local video from Photos or Files. A file shown by a cloud provider may need to download first. Check that it plays on the iPhone before importing it.

Which languages and voices can I use?

Availability depends on the speech assets supported on your iPhone. Check the language and voice in the beta before preparing a project, and download required assets before going offline. We do not publish a blanket language count.

Can viewers turn the captions off?

Captions embedded in the picture remain visible. They cannot be turned off like a separate caption track. The beta focuses on embedded video captions. Read captions and subtitles explained for the difference.

Will saving a video sync it to iCloud?

It can, depending on the save location and your Photos, Files and backup settings. On-device processing does not disable your own cloud services. Read how local processing works.

Is there an Android or web app?

Tap Captions is an iPhone app for iOS 27. This website explains the app and provides guides. It does not process video files in your browser.

What will it cost?

App Store pricing and release timing have not been announced. Contact the team with questions about beta access.
