Tap Captions and VEED
VEED provides an online editing workflow with automatic subtitles and subtitle-file downloads. Tap Captions processes local footage on your iPhone and saves a finished video with captions or narration.

VEED's subtitle tool page describes the output options. Its help guide walks through signing in, uploading a file and generating subtitles.
When Tap Captions fits
Your footage is already on your phone and you want to keep the editing there. Tap Captions is useful for a Reel, Short or tutorial where the finished video needs readable text and a clear voiceover.
Prepare any required speech assets and iCloud originals before disconnecting. You can then use the local processing workflow and publish after you have a connection again.
When VEED fits
Consider VEED when you prefer an online editor or need one of its subtitle file outputs. Check the plan's export options and limits before building a workflow around a specific format.
Tap Captions's beta focuses on captions embedded in the picture. Those captions travel with the video, but viewers cannot switch them off or change their presentation. A separate track can be useful when your destination supports it.
Decide from the finished file
Check the words, timing, text placement and output your destination expects. The captions and subtitles guide explains the difference between an embedded caption and a separate file.
