Help people follow every step.

A close-up or screen recording can show more than a paragraph. Caption On adds the spoken explanation and readable captions, so a viewer can follow both the action and its purpose.

Record the action first

Film a recipe step, demonstrate a product or make a screen recording. Keep the action visible and leave a moment before moving to the next step. Open the finished sequence from Photos or Files.

For a screen recording, check that notifications, account details and other personal information are not visible. For a product demonstration, make sure the feature you describe is clear in the footage.

Give each step a short explanation

Write one or two sentences for each action. Say what the viewer needs to do and include details that are difficult to see, such as a measurement or a setting name. Generate the narration, then listen while watching the clip.

If the explanation takes longer than the action, shorten it or give that step more room in your source edit. Speeding through every instruction can make a tutorial harder to use.

Make the important words visible

Review names, measurements, settings and numbers in the captions. Place the text where it does not cover your hands, a menu or the product itself. For a busy screen recording, a clear text background can help.

Watch the exported video without sound. Then listen without watching. Each pass can reveal information that needs a clearer explanation.

Save a copy for your audience

Tap Captions processes your footage on the iPhone. Save the video before sharing it in a message, a course or a social post. Your sharing destination determines whether the finished file leaves the device.
